About By The Books
By the Books isn’t your typical accounting firm…
Sure, you can count on the best cloud-based technology, attention to detail, and financial expertise. Yes, we nerd out on streamlining systems, strategizing processes, and organizing data. Even though we do things “by the books,” boring is nowhere to be found.
That’s because smart accounting is actually far from boring. It’s an exciting starting place for your business’s bright future.
But that doesn’t mean you have to love crunching numbers. That’s our job.
It’s common for startups and entrepreneurs to DIY everything—including tackling the books. Maybe you know you don’t have the experience or time to do this yourself, but you’re worried you don’t have the cash flow to justify hiring an accountant.
So instead of reaching for another cup of coffee and the bottle of aspirin, spending another late night with the spreadsheets and a growing headache, let us handle the bookkeeping details so you can focus on running your business. We’ll streamline your processes with the best, easy-to-use cloud-based technology, and tackle questions you might not even know to ask. Should you hire another employee for the holiday crunch? When will you have the cash flow to support that equipment purchase? With our expert insights, we can strategize together on important goals—and create a complete picture of your business’s financial wellness.
Meet Lisa Prunty
Owner & Chief Accounting Nerd
Having started my career as an auditor and CPA at Ernst & Young in Seattle over 30 years ago, it quickly became clear to me that I didn’t “fit the mold” of a traditional accountant. Undaunted, I went on to hold many senior accounting and Controller roles at companies large and small, from Services to Manufacturing, and everything in between.
After falling in love, I packed it all up and moved to Bozeman, where I quickly realized there was a huge need for quality accounting services to support solopreneurs and small businesses. And, long story a wee bit shorter, a business was born.
Today, I love putting all the pieces of the financial puzzle together, and seeing the look of relief on my clients’ faces when the picture starts to make sense—and the numbers support their company vision.
I’m a licensed CPA and hold a Bachelors of Arts in Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting. I wrote a thesis on accounting, of all things! Numbers are truly my happy place.
When I’m not nerding out on financial data, you’ll find me racing dragons around the world (ask! I know you want to!), working alongside my husband Steve to “save” our dilapidated mountain cabin, or just giving my beloved four-legged kiddos ear scratches.
